Dr D H Buddhika Ubayawansa is a Consultant Oncological surgeon who is specialised in breast cancer Surgery In Sri Lanka. He is one of the few oncological surgeons in Sri Lanka who has Specialised  Training in Breast cancer in the United Kingdom.

Dr Buddhika Ubayawansa graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo Sri Lanka. Subsequently, he selected Cancer surgery as his career and obtain MD In surgery. He completed his overseas fellowship as an Oncoplastic breast fellow in North and East Hertfordshire NHS trust in the United Kingdom.

During his Practise as a breast surgeon in the United kingdom he has mastered the latest techniques in breast cancer management, which includes wide range of local and regional flap techniques, emerging Sentinel node biopsy techniques, and more convenient localisation methods for non-palpable breast lesions.

As a consultant oncological surgeon, he has worked in leading cancer centres in Sri Lanka Including Apeksh Hospital, Maharagama, Teaching Hospital Ratnapura And National Hospital Galle

He focuses on comprehensive, minimally invasive and compassionate care of women and men with breast disease in Sri Lanka.

Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in women In Sri Lanka . Every year more than 4000 new cases of breast cancer Reports from Sri Lanka. According to the experts this figure may be much higher if not due to under reporting. 

According to the national cancer Registry Incident of breast cancer is rising and currently it is the comments cause of cancer related deaths in Sri Lanka.

Breast Cancer screening In Sri Lanka

Cancer Screening is the method of checking your body for cancer before it cause any symptoms. By screening cancers can be diagnosed at early stages and it improves the outcome. Breast cancer screening is done with a x ray test called mammogram. In developed countries this test is done for every women after 49years. Unfortunately there is No well established breast screening programme in Sri Lanka. However if you have any doubt you can go to one of the breast clinics in you nearest hospital.
